When the material of a lithium ion battery is exposed to air its surface changes due to chemical reactions with the oxygen and the water molecules in the air. For these delicate samples, Hitachi developed the air protection sample holder system that enables the polishing process of the sample surface and its observation and analysis by using SEM and AFM. This data sheet shows cathode materials of an ion-milled lithium ion battery cross-section observed at the same area with FE-SEM and scanning spread resistance microscopy (SSRM). |
