“SEM sample preparation for metallographic structure of Mg alloy (AZ31)”
Magnesium (Mg) alloy is known to be difficult to prepare for microscopy due to its high reactivity. Since it is difficult to fully wash out polishing powder by water, grain contrast of mechanically polished surface is rather weak. However, additional ion milling removes surface powders and enhances grain contrast.
