”Ultra-low-voltage SEM observation of a Lithium-ion Battery cathode”
An LIB (Lithium-ion Battery) cathode material was observed on an ultra-low-voltage SEM at a landing voltage of 10 V. The active materials, the conductive agents, and the binders were clearly identified by morphology and contrast. In the magnified view, the binder-assisted binding of the conductive agent and the active material and the thin residue of the binder adhered on the surface of the active materials were recognized. While the conductive agent and the binder are difficult to be distinguished by BSE compositional contrast since they are similar in composition and the binder layer is very thin, they were clearly identified by voltage contrast with SE signal.
